Mood Swings

Teenagers are moody for a variety of reasons:

  • They may be using drugs
  • Their hormones are changing
  • Their thinking is changing
  • They lack coping skills for all they changes

So how do you handle this?

Remember teenagers are just as frustrated as they are frustrating.  You can guide them by role modeling appropriate behavior.  In other words try and keep your head attached.  Some things that might help you are: remember teenagers are similar to two year olds and fish.  Two year old children are exploring their environment and trying to find out what their limits are.  They become frustrated when they hear “NO” all the time.  Also when they are exploring they will check back to make sure you are still there.  Guess what that’s what teenagers are doing.  And that is why when they are going on a date, you have to be at home, so they can check back and feel safe.
